Eat for keeps with Leigh Elder |
Our new charity, NZ Blood-Sugar Foundation is raising funds for the free EFK challenge pilot, which will begin on September 19 and finish on December 19. We are also looking for sponsors and people with specialist skills to help.
Part of the challenge will include a special section for a group of pre or type 2 diabetics which will also double as a scientific study. This will be a unique experience for participants and they will learn a range of new food and life skills, as well as have fun interacting with each other. We are confident that most of these people will improve their condition and some even become free from diabetes.
There is an opportunity for a local person who is skilled in video production to film some of the events that will take place with this group over the three-month period. This could come with the opportunity for their work to be viewed by a very large audience across the country. If you would like to know more, my contact details are below.
Mount New World is the principal sponsor and we also are on the lookout for others, eg we are issuing some of our people with Fit Bits, so any assistance in the supply of these would be great.
We are also still recruiting pre and type 2 diabetics for the study. This will be a unique opportunity for people with this condition to take advantage of the free challenge. If you are interested enquire now.
We have recently been approached by Hobart dietician Ngaire Hobbins as we both share very similar principals. I have just read her great book, ‘Eat To Cheat Ageing' and it is a must read for anyone approaching middle age or beyond.
She is a leading nutritionist specialising in nutritional care for people as they are ageing. It is an easy read and full of some excellent guidelines, tips and ideas.
