The Lead it Dynamos are school students trained to plan and facilitate lunch time activities at school. During 2015 over 1300 Dynamo Leaders from throughout the Bay of Plenty have been trained.
The Dynamos programme provides young leaders with leadership knowledge, understanding and personal skill development. There have been seventy-three schools enrolled in this Sport Bay of Plenty programme with potential to expand even further in 2016.
Earlier this term the first Dynamos Event Day was held at ASB Arena in Mount Maunganui with six schools attending. The excited year five and six students led activities involving seventy students from various schools across the region, utilising the Sport New Zealand Growing Leaders Programme framework but also taking their own activities.
The purpose of the day was to catalyse, nurture and grow leadership potential in the attendees and this was an opportunity for the young leaders to experience a leadership learning pathway by applying the principles in a practical context.
Sport Bay of Plenty Fundamentals Advisor Debbie Garea emphasised the practical nature of the day, saying 'Dynamos Event Days are a fantastic chance for the young leaders to understand self-leadership and explore ways to do things better; growing and evolving their capabilities to enable them to give back to their school”.
As part of the Dynamos programme all 1300 leaders have to complete their act of service by delivering activities at lunchtimes to other students in their school. Teachers provide further leadership training and support throughout the year with Sport Bay of Plenty's guidance.
