Within a matter of days, Richie McCaw is expected to announce his retirement from Rugby. But two weeks ago, at the end of the Rugby World Cup, when a reporter questioned Richie about his retirement, Richie said, 'We'll worry about that later… Right now, I just want to enjoy having played a world cup final with such a great bunch of men…”

Winning the Rugby World Cup back to back was an epic moment. The All Blacks had set for themselves an incredibly high goal and they worked hard to achieve it. Richie knew that now was the time to celebrate.

There had been a time for preparation, performance and even rest. There would be a time for future planning and strategizing. But now was the time for celebration. Richie was able to recognise the moment and live in it, thus providing us with invaluable careers advice.

Stop! And celebrate what you have accomplished today. Take a moment to congratulate yourself on what you have done well today. Your achievement does not have to be epic. It just has to be your own.

How often do we work towards a project only to move on to the next project without stopping to consider, let alone celebrate what we've done?

Okay, so maybe not every task we complete is worthy of spraying our mates with Champagne. But it is so important to stop for a moment; an evening, a day, a weekend, and reflect on the good we have accomplished – no matter how small that good may seem at times. And when the good seems big, remember that the bigger the achievement, the larger the celebration required.

This simple act of kindness towards yourself will boost your courage and increase your workplace satisfaction.
