Bragging rights and a big win

Local young fisherman Rylan Layne couldn't contain his excitement when he tagged and released his first marlin at the recent Tauranga Sport Fishing Club One Base tournament recently.

Rylan's dad, Aaron, captured part of Rylan's hour-long effort to reel in the marlin on his phone.

If the adventure in itself wasn't enough reason for celebration, his footage won a GoPro as first prize for the Blue Chilli Best Footage Award, after he sent it in to the official video production company, Blue Chilli.

'Rylan couldn't wait to go and tell his mates. He's got definite bragging rights.” says Aaron.

'Going into the event, Rylan had pretty high expectations. His older brother Draydon had caught his first marlin at the fishing tournament at the same ago three years ago.” Both boys had received entry tickets to the event for their 10th birthdays. 'But, he did it – and he won a Go Pro.

'There were three generations on the boat; me, my father, Rylan and his older brother. We were all pretty pumped.” Aaron said of the experience.

You can see the footage of Rylan's efforts as it was incorporated into the TSFC One Base 2018 video produced. Watch it online: https://vimeo.com/262304834
